About

I’m Jeff Simpson. For twenty years I’ve helped organizations figure out what their technology should actually do for the people using it.

That’s meant enterprise web platforms for Fortune 500 companies (Wilbur-Ellis, Saint-Gobain, Whirlpool, MINI) and digital communications for nonprofits doing consequential work, including seven years at Lambda Legal during the fights over Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and DOMA. I founded Jeff Simpson Digital in 2017 and have run it since, alongside startups and cultural institutions that needed strategy more than they needed another vendor.

These days I split my time between client work and research. At Montana State’s Human Interaction Lab, I lead an NIH- and NSF-funded project combining XR, biosensing, and AI agents into behavioral health interventions for substance use disorders. I went back for a computer science degree mid-career, largely because I wanted to build the things I’d spent years specifying.

I started out as a classical pianist, which remains the most useful training I’ve had: pay attention, practice the hard part, know who you’re playing for.
